Riyaz is the flagship product of MusicMuni Labs Private Limited. We are a technology company focussed on building solutions in the space of music education and infotainment. MusicMuni is a spinoff from the pioneering research group in the domain of Music Information Research – Music Technology Group, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, Spain .
Origins
CompMusic was a research project funded by the European Research Council (ERC grant agreement 267583). Prof. Xavier Serra from the Music Technology Group of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, Spain, coordinated the project. The project helped advance the automatic description of music by emphasising cultural specificity. It focussed on five music traditions of the world: Hindustani (North India), Carnatic (South India), Turkish-makam (Turkey), Arab-Andalusian (Maghreb) and Beijing Opera (China). The work on Hindustani and Carnatic music is carried out in collaboration with teams at IIT-M and IIT-B. Prof. Hema Murthy and Prof. Preeti Rao lead those teams respectively.
There are several key technology outcomes of the CompMusic project. The CAMUT follow-up technology transfer grant allowed us to develop prototypes tailored for Indian market around these outcomes. MusicMuni Labs is founded in India to take this forward and bring these technologies to market, identifying concrete segments which can be impacted in a huge way.
Our vision
We envision a world enriched by a ubiquitous music literacy resulting in a tangible positive impact on the livelihoods of millions of people.
We work towards this by catalysing and scaling music education and infotainment domains in ways accessible by and affordable to masses. We are aware that this is only possible with a synergy between pedagogical knowledge and artificial intelligence, with a particular emphasis on learner engagement and automated evaluation.
