Desh or Des is an Audava-Sampurna (consists of 5 notes in Aroh and 7 notes in Avroh)  raga from the Hindustani music tradition. Raag Desh has been used in well known Indian Patriotic Compositions. The most identifiable being “Vande Mataram” which is the national song of India. The popular composition Baje Sargam from Doordarshan with many famous artists like Bhimsen Joshi, Ravi Shankar, Hariprasad Chaurasia was also based on Raag Desh.

Raag Desh is sung in the 2nd night quarter of night from 9 pm to 12 am.

What is the nature of Raag Desh?

Raag Desh depicts the Shringar (beauty) and Veer Rasa (heroism and boldness).

What is the Thaat of Raag Desh?

The Thaat of Raag Desh is Khamaj.

What are the notes in Raag Desh?

The Arohana of the raga is Ni Sa Re, Ma Pa Ni, Sa.

The Avarohana of the raga is Sa ni Dha, Pa Dha Ma Ga Re, Pa Ma Ga, Re Ga Ni Sa.

What is the Vadi and Samvadi of Raag Desh?

The Vadi is Re and the Samvadi is Pa.
