Terms of service
Effective from 23 October 2016. Last updated 26 July 2026.
These terms are the agreement between you and us about using Riyaz. Please read them. They cover what you get, what you pay, what you may upload, and what happens if something goes wrong.
Riyaz is operated by MusicMuni Labs Private Limited ("MusicMuni", "Riyaz", "we", "us"), registered at 220, 4th C Cross Road, 3rd Block HRBR Layout, Kalyan Nagar, Bengaluru 560043, India.
They apply to the Riyaz mobile apps on Android and iOS, and to the website at riyazapp.com (together, the "Service").
Our Privacy Policy explains what we do with your data and forms part of these terms.
Accepting these terms
By using the Service you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use it.
If you are using Riyaz on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are authorised to accept these terms for it.
Who can use Riyaz
You must be at least 13 years old to use Riyaz.
If you are between 13 and 15, you may use Riyaz only with the permission of a parent or guardian, who accepts these terms on your behalf and is responsible for your use of the Service. Where your local law sets a higher age, that age applies to you instead.
If a parent or guardian believes their child is using Riyaz without their permission, email care@riyazapp.com and we will close the account and delete the data.
Your account
You can practise on Riyaz without creating an account. Some features, and anything you pay for, need one.
When you create an account:
- Sign in through one of the providers offered in the app. You are responsible for keeping access to that sign-in secure.
- Keep your details accurate.
- You are responsible for activity under your account. Tell us promptly at care@riyazapp.com if you think someone else has access to it.
- Keep to one account per person, unless we agree otherwise.
You can delete your account at any time from Settings in the app. Deleting it ends this agreement, cancels access to paid features, and deletes your data as described in the Privacy Policy. Deleting your account does not by itself cancel a subscription billed by an app store; see Cancelling below.
What Riyaz provides
Riyaz is a self-paced singing practice app. It gives you lessons, exercises, songs, voice tools, and feedback on your singing generated automatically by our software.
Riyaz does not provide lessons from a human teacher, live classes, or any service where an individual instructor is matched to you.
We add, change, and retire lessons, songs, courses, and features over time. Content available today may not be available tomorrow. We do not promise that any specific lesson, song, or course will remain on the Service, and we do not promise any particular result from using it.
Some of Riyaz is free. Some of it requires a subscription or a purchase. What sits on each side of that line can change; if a feature you already paid for moves behind a further paywall during your paid period, we will honour your existing access for that period.
Practising safely
Riyaz gives vocal exercises and feedback. It is not medical advice and it is not a substitute for a doctor, a speech therapist, or a voice coach.
Stop and rest if singing hurts. If you have a voice condition, a respiratory condition, or any other health concern, speak to a qualified professional before following the exercises. Practise at a volume that is safe for your hearing.
Subscriptions and payments
Riyaz offers subscriptions and one-off purchases. The price, currency, billing period, and what is included are shown to you in the app before you pay, and taxes are included where we are required to charge them.
Where you pay matters. Purchases are processed either through the app store you downloaded Riyaz from, or through a payment gateway inside the app. The route is shown at checkout.
Subscriptions renew automatically at the then-current price for the same period, until cancelled. Store-billed subscriptions renew and are charged by the app store under its own rules, which usually means renewal charges apply shortly before each period ends.
Free trials and introductory offers, where we run them, convert to a paid subscription at the end of the trial unless you cancel before it ends. The terms of the offer are shown before you accept it.
Price changes apply from your next billing period. We will give you notice before a price change takes effect, and where the law requires your consent, we will ask for it. If you do not want to continue at the new price, cancel before it applies.
We may change prices, plans, and offers for new purchases at any time.
Cancelling
You can cancel at any time and keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for.
- Store-billed subscriptions must be cancelled through the app store's own subscription settings on the device or account you bought with. We cannot cancel them for you; the store does not give us that control. There is a link to the right place in the app under Settings.
- Gateway-billed purchases can be cancelled by writing to care@riyazapp.com.
Cancelling stops the next renewal. It does not, on its own, refund what you have already paid.
Refunds
Store purchases follow the store's refund policy. If you bought through an app store, the store handles refunds under its own rules and timelines, and we have no ability to override its decision. Ask the store first; if you are stuck, write to us and we will help where we can.
Gateway purchases are handled by us case by case. Write to care@riyazapp.com, tell us what happened, and we will look at it and respond within 30 days.
Where you have a statutory right to a refund or to withdraw from the contract, including the withdrawal right consumers have in the EU and UK for digital content, that right applies regardless of anything in this section. If you ask us to give you immediate access to paid content and you agree that this ends your withdrawal right, we will make that clear before you buy.
Songs and other content you upload
Riyaz lets you upload audio from your own device to practise with.
You keep ownership. Uploading changes nothing about who owns the music.
What you allow us to do. You give us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store your upload, process it (for example, to separate the vocal from the backing, extract pitch, and build a timing map), and deliver it back to you inside Riyaz. That licence exists only so the feature can work. It lasts while the upload is on your account and ends when you delete the upload or your account, apart from copies in routine backups, which cycle out.
We will not do anything else with it. We do not publish your uploads, show them to other users, use them in marketing, sell them, or use them to build features for anyone else.
You must have the right to upload it. By uploading, you confirm that you own the recording and the underlying musical work, or that your use of it is otherwise permitted, for example by a licence you hold or by a fair-dealing or fair-use exception where one applies. Uploading music you have no right to use is a breach of these terms and you are responsible for the consequences.
Takedowns. If you are a rights holder and believe something on Riyaz infringes your rights, email care@riyazapp.com with enough detail to identify the work and the material. We will investigate and remove infringing material. We close the accounts of users who infringe repeatedly.
You can delete any upload from the app at any time, which removes the source file and everything derived from it.
What you may not do
Do not:
- Use Riyaz for anything unlawful, or in breach of anyone else's rights
- Upload content you have no right to upload, or that is unlawful, abusive, or designed to harm someone
- Copy, redistribute, resell, publicly perform, or make available our lessons, songs, audio, or other content outside the app
- Scrape, crawl, or bulk-download the Service, or extract our content to build a dataset or a competing product
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to derive our source code or models, except where the law expressly allows it
- Circumvent paywalls, entitlement checks, usage limits, or any other technical restriction
- Probe or attack our systems, or interfere with anyone else's use of the Service
- Share, sell, or transfer your account or your access to paid content
- Impersonate anyone, or misrepresent your connection to us
If you break these rules we may restrict, suspend, or close your account. Where the breach is minor and fixable, we will normally tell you and give you a chance to put it right first.
Our content, and what you may do with it
The Service, and everything we put in it, including lessons, exercises, recordings, notation, artwork, software, and the Riyaz name and logo, belongs to us or to our licensors and is protected by copyright and other laws.
While your account is in good standing, we give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service and to access its content for your own non-commercial practice, on devices you control. That is the whole of the licence. Nothing else is granted, expressly or by implication.
Using Riyaz content in teaching, in a class, in a performance, or in anything you publish requires our written permission first.
Feedback
If you send us ideas or suggestions, we may use them freely and without owing you anything. We are not treating them as confidential. Please do not send us anything you are not happy for us to use.
Availability
We work to keep Riyaz running, but we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may suspend the Service for maintenance, updates, or reasons outside our control.
Riyaz needs a compatible device, an operating system version we support, and internet access for parts of the app. Keeping those up to date is on you. We may end support for older devices or operating system versions.
Changes to these terms
We may change these terms. When we do, we update the "last updated" date at the top.
If a change materially affects your rights or what you pay, we will give you reasonable notice in the app or by email before it takes effect. If you do not accept the change, cancel before it applies. If it takes effect part-way through a period you have already paid for, you may cancel and we will refund the unused portion.
Continuing to use Riyaz after a change takes effect means you accept it.
Suspension and termination
You can stop using Riyaz at any time and delete your account from Settings.
We may suspend or close your account if you materially breach these terms, if we are required to by law, or if we reasonably believe it is necessary to protect other users, ourselves, or the public. Except where the breach is serious or we are legally prevented, we will tell you why and give you a chance to respond.
If we close your account for a reason that is not your fault, we will refund the unused portion of anything you have paid.
We may discontinue Riyaz as a whole. If we do, we will give reasonable notice and refund the unused portion of any active subscription.
Sections that by their nature should survive the end of this agreement do so, including the ones on our content, disclaimers, liability, indemnity, and governing law.
Disclaimers
Riyaz is provided "as is" and "as available".
Feedback on your singing is generated automatically by software. It is an estimate, not an assessment by a qualified teacher, and it can be wrong, especially in noisy rooms, on poor microphones, or with unusual voices.
To the extent the law allows, we exclude all implied warranties, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will meet your requirements, that it will be available without interruption, or that any content is accurate or complete.
Nothing here affects rights you have as a consumer that cannot be excluded by law.
Our liability to you
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, for any liability that cannot be limited under the law that applies to you, including your rights under consumer protection law and your right to compensation under data protection law.
Subject to that:
- We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, loss of goodwill, or loss of data that was not caused by our failure to take reasonable care.
- Our total liability to you for all claims arising out of or connected with these terms or your use of the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or INR 5,000.
Your responsibility to us
If someone brings a claim against us because of content you uploaded or because you used Riyaz in breach of these terms or of the law, you agree to cover the reasonable losses and legal costs we incur as a result. This does not apply to the extent the claim results from something we did wrong, and it does not apply if you are a consumer and the law where you live does not allow it.
Complaints and grievances
Tell us first: care@riyazapp.com. Most things are faster to fix that way than through a formal process.
Grievance Officer (under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and rules made under it):
Gopala Krishna Koduri MusicMuni Labs Private Limited 220, 4th C Cross Road, 3rd Block HRBR Layout, Kalyan Nagar, Bengaluru 560043, India care@riyazapp.com
We acknowledge grievances within 48 hours and resolve them within 30 days.
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India.
Disputes may be brought before the courts in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
If you are a consumer, this does not take away your rights. You keep the right to bring proceedings in the consumer forum or court where you live, and to rely on the consumer protection law of your own country, including your right to approach a consumer commission under India's Consumer Protection Act, 2019 if you are in India. We may bring proceedings against you only in the courts where you live.
General
Entire agreement. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us about the Service, and replace anything said before.
Severability. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies, and that part is read down to the minimum extent needed to make it valid.
No waiver. If we do not enforce something straight away, we have not given up the right to enforce it later.
Assignment. You may not transfer your rights under these terms. We may transfer ours to a group company or as part of a sale of the business, provided your rights are not reduced.
Events outside our control. We are not responsible for failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control, though this does not affect your right to cancel and be refunded for a service you cannot use.
Notices. We will contact you at the email address on your account or through the app. You can reach us at care@riyazapp.com.
